Window servicing
We can:-
- Replace cords.
- Replace spring balances - some sash windows have spring balances (also known as spiral balances) rather than cords and weights. As with cords, springs do wear, causing a loss of balance. We can install new balances tailored to the weight of your windows.
- Install new pulleys
- Re-balance sashes
- Replace old/flaky putty
- Install new sash fasteners/security locks. Security locks and restricted opening locks can be fitted to existing/new/ replacement windows. Keep children and pets safe and keep your home secured.
Draught Proofing
We can draught proof your existing windows.
Sash windows have an air gap around the sashes to allow the windows to operate.
In period windows it is this air gap that causes the problems associated with sash windows, i.e. draughts, rattles and poor energy efficiency.
We can eliminate these problems by replacing the parting bead, staff bead (see diagram) and the installation of a meeting rail and bottom rail seal, this will provide a total seal solution.
This will in no way alter the aesthetic appearance of your windows. Your windows will be smooth in operation and draught free, which means a warmer room and lower energy bills.
Draught proofing and servicing will bring a new lease of life to any sash window at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Complying with Part L.
You do not have to replace windows to comply with Part L.
Exemptions apply to conservation areas and to listed buildings.
The windows must however show an improvement in energy efficiency (providing the work does not alter the character or appearance of the building).
This means the draught proofing total seal solution is ideal.
By renovating, repairing and improving timber windows, the character of the building is retained while its energy efficiency is improved.
